County's SRQCon scheduled for June 8

SARASOTA COUNTY - Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources invites the public to attend its annual pop culture event,8af5f5f0-8c6f-4453-8ff4-a3e27e8696ef SRQCon, on Saturday, June 8, at Selby Library, 1331 First St., Sarasota.

Embracing the spirit of fandom, SRQCon promises a day filled with excitement for enthusiasts of all ages.

From 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., the library will transform into a hub of activity, offering an array of engaging events including panels, demonstrations, cosplay showcases, gaming, virtual reality experiences, an escape room challenge, crafts and much more. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the cosplay contest, showcasing their impressive costumes.

"SRQCon is quickly becoming one of Southwest Florida’s best comic conventions, featuring fandoms of multiple genres," said Dr. Renée DiPilato, Director of Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources. "What sets this event apart from others in the area, is our free admission, so everyone can be included in the fun.”

Indulge your taste buds with food trucks, such as The Empanada Lady and Q & S Kool Cups, which will be onsite.

The event schedule boasts a diverse lineup of presentations and activities tailored to a wide range of interests. Highlights include the "Secondhand Science: Time Travel in Pop Culture" panel with Nienna Nir, the energetic "Cosplay Dance" led by Shimmy BOOM and the informative "Comic Creation Workshop" hosted by Bat City Comics.

Engage in discussions led by industry experts on topics including writing, character development and horror in pop culture.

Cosplayers are advised to ensure their costumes are appropriate for all ages and adhere to county and library rules of conduct. 

SRQCon is open to the public, with no tickets or registration required for entry.
